There are so many reasons why many people have turned to making their own cleaners over the past few years. Homemade cleaners are often much more affordable, more environmentally friendly, and are highly customizable. I began my journey in making my own cleaners nine years ago when I had less than a shoestring budget, a house with preteens and multiple pets, and adult onset allergies that were just odd. Some of the information I already had were things my mother and grandmother had taught me, everything else I learned through a little research. This was almost a year before that creation of Pinterest so I leaned heavily on the local libraries for searching the internet and the books that they had on household hints and tips. Some books I did end up purchasing to keep on hand as a reference and it has been great being able to share those with friends.
Once I found a cleaner that worked for intended purposes I did not really experiment with the formulas. It was a tried and true method. Why mess with perfection? Well, that may have worked, but it wasn’t fun, exciting, or challenging. I wasn’t learning past those tried and true methods. Cleaning was my crafting and my crafty, creativeness crashed. This year I am taking some of my traditional go to DIY cleaners and am experimenting with the formulas, products, ratios, and trying to expand the uses for these cleaners. I’ve included a list below of my go to cleaners, their recipes, and will begin posting any experimental trials. This list will probably get longer as time goes by, but these are my most favorite.
Vinegar = even on its own, it’s pretty awesome.
