Multipurpose Cleaner
I think most of the cleaners that I make could be used as multipurpose cleaners, but this formula is specific for the kitchen, bath, or anywhere else that a person would not only want to be clean but disinfected. No sharing germs!
The first few times I made this solution I used the same sprigs of rosemary and lemon. This did not affect the quality of the cleaner in efficacy or in fragrance. The spray bottle worked really well and the plant matter improved the beauty of the bottle. Something that did happen over time was the sprayer started to get clogged from the bits of pith that had broken away from the lemon peel. To keep this from happening you can change the herbs and peel each time you make it or not use it at all. I don’t really like being limited to those two options and I like to make stuff ahead and in bulk, so I came up with a third option to this. It does require an extra step or two, but in my opinion, it creates the best cleaner and the best option.
If you are going to go the small batch route and make this once a month or so just follow the instructions below. It’s really simple
Small Batch – add all together in spray bottle and shake
¾ c white vinegar
½ c rubbing alcohol
½ c water
5 drops dish soap
A couple herby sprigs and a couple citrus peels: I use rosemary, lavender, or sage and combine it with either lemon or orange peel.
If you want to make this in a large batch, please know that it does take a couple more steps. Straining the vinegar before you add it to the spray bottle ensures that your sprayer will be clog free and leaving the plant matter in the jug you are storing it in will increase the how much the vinegar takes on the plant scent.
Large Batch – two step process.
Mix the two together and place to store
1 gallon vinegar (minus a cup)
Herb sprigs and citrus peel (as much as you want or as much as will fit)
When ready to mix cleaner together
Strain the ¾ c vinegar into the spray bottle. Keep the strained plant matter in the jug.
½ c rubbing alcohol
½ c water
5 drops dish soap
Before using this cleaner, small or large batch style, give your spray bottle a gentle shake to make sure all the ingredients are mixed together well.
